The honest version of how this site pays for itself — and where the line is.
Affiliate commissions
In short: Some outbound links earn us a commission, at no extra cost to you.
When you follow certain links from Semawise to a provider and go on to start a program or buy something, we may earn a commission. You never pay more for using our link than you would otherwise — the provider covers it, and it keeps our answers free to read.
What it buys, and what it doesn't
In short: A commission never buys a better review, a softer write-up, or a different price. It does buy position.
Whether a link pays us has no bearing on how a provider is described, what goes in its pros and cons, the prices we report, or the price you pay — those are identical either way, and a paying provider gets no softer treatment than one that pays nothing. Where it does matter is the ORDER: our affiliate partners are listed ahead of the providers we have no commercial relationship with. We would rather say that plainly than let you assume otherwise. Read the list as placement, not as a merit order — a provider further down is not necessarily worse, it may simply not pay us — and judge the options on the price, the offering, and the terms printed on each card.
Editorial independence
In short: The words come from the research, not from an advertiser.
Our explainers are built from published studies and official drug labeling, then written up in plain language. No advertiser reviews or approves what we publish before it goes live. The sourcing rules that produce those explainers — one primary source per medical claim, and never a price we did not see on the provider's own page — are set out in our editorial policy, and the people applying them are named on the about page.

In short: Most paying links run through affiliate networks such as Katalys.
Our affiliate links are typically routed through networks like Katalys, which track a referral and handle the commission if you act. We do not accept payment to insert or reword editorial claims, and any sponsored placement, if one ever appears, would be labeled as such.
